Today is 1 April which is also known as April fool day.In this day peoples try to make their friends,relatives and colleagues fool.By doing different types of unexpected acts.Most the big companies e.g. apple,microsoft and google also celebrates this day by doing something different.

Today i got shocked when i opened gmail to check my emails.When i was just about to enter my username and password.I realized something different in gmail.First i thought that it is possible that i have changed the language by mistake so i started search for the language which i can understand and it is off course English.

But after having a look on the whole gmail windows.I wasn’t able to find any language options.I was just thinking that what suddenly has happened to gmail, then april fool day has come in my mind and i realized that this must be joke by google on April fool day.I really like this unique idea of google to celebrate April fool day.

Before some hours i wrote a post about Hindi language now available in gmail.It is now the time to write another post about an interesting new feature of gmail.If gmail keeps on adding new features with this pace i m pretty sure Gmail will be the most popular email service very soon.

Well this time the new feature is auto completing search query while searching in gmail.If you write a query on gmail search box for finding an email address or an email Gmail will auto complete the query,saving your time and making your more lazy coz due to this new feature you will not need to see the results which you don’t want.

Turn on Search Autocomplete from the Labs tab under Gmail Settings, and you’ll get suggestions as you type in the search box. One of the most popular searches in Gmail is for names or email addresses, so the first kind of suggestions you’ll see are contacts. Some names are not easy to remember (my last name is an excellent example!) — with this new Labs feature you can just type a couple letters and select the desired contact from the drop down list. Easy and quick as that.

This is not enought you can use advanced search operators to make your search query more refined.

If you’re in India, this feature is enabled by default. If not, you’ll need to turn it on in the “Language” section under Settings. Once enabled, just click the Indian languages icon and type words in the way they sound in English — Gmail will automatically convert them to their Indian language equivalent.3

Today i had a look at the small but cool new feature added to gmail.Watch videos right in the gmail chat with this option you can watch videos while doing chat whenever you enter the link of  google video or youtube in gmail it will show you the preview in the same windows right after the link of video.Isn’t it interesting.

Google has introduced 30 odd themes.There’s even an old school ascii theme (Terminal) which was the result of a bet between two engineer.

To change the theme of gmail go to the Themes tab under Settings.Google will be some introducing some more cool themes.If themes are not available in your account just wait and come back it will be available very soon.

To increase the popularity of Gmail google is providing new updates and features for gmail very quickly recently google has introduced Emoticons in gmail which is really useful for most of the gmail users.Now google has introduced calendat and docs gadgets for gmail.Calendat gadget allows you add all your events and meeting and then calendear will alert you at the time of the meeting calendar is also good for having a quick look at dates and days.Showing an alert at the time of meeting was the most requested feature by users.

Docs gadget allows you to list all the recently accessed documents and you can also search the documents from gmail.There’s a third Lab that allows you to add any gadget by pasting in the URL of its XML spec file (e.g. http://www.google.com/ig/modules/youtube_videos.xml).We realize this isn’t very user friendly right now Both these gadgets are really going to be useful for users and google is also working to add some more cool gadgets into gmail.

I am going to tell you a small solution. Just go to Settings in your Gmail account. At the bottom of the page you will notice Browser Connection. Change it to Always use https and save the settings. In Google’s wordings:

” To enable this feature in Gmail:

1. Sign in to Gmail.

2. Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page.

3. Set ‘Browser Connection’ to ‘Always use https.’

4. Click Save Changes.

5. Reload Gmail.”

For Gmail Notifier users:

If you use Gmail Notifier you should download a patch to work with this settings.

Click Here to download patch: http://www.google.com/mail/help/downloads/notifier_https.zip

Follow the steps below to install the downloaded patch:

1. Download the patch.

2. Open the folder.

3. Double-click the notifier_https.reg file.

4. Click yes when you’re asked to confirm if you want to add the information to the registry.

5. Restart the Notifier.

That’s all you need to protect your Gmail(Google Mail) account from hackers.
