Aniruddh Dixit, I would like to say that "Quake III" Needs Hardware TnL in Medium Settings... (If you enable Lightmaps & Shadows)
Also, I play games that needs Pixel Shader and it is not the feature that makes lag... In fact, Pixel Shader requires less power than a High-Polygon game. (If you disable Shadow/Bloom/SM in Crysis 2, you won't notice a huge or even small FPS improvement. But, if you diminish the Polygon Count or Texture Size, you will notice a Huge Performance improvement.

this is the best crap i have ever heard. you have to tell how to use what i want to and not what i shouldn't use.
i use Norton 360 virus scan and i have felt no performance lag.

Plus i play a lot of games as well, for example Quake III, one of the best games of its times and still seems excellent on graphics and game-play, runs butter smooth at high settings on a netbook. You just have to choose your games right, just not the ones which require pixel shader or hardware TnL.

Check out the link in the next comment it it is not deleted....yet...

I've read the article and the comments posted about it.

First the comments...attacking someone about their use of the English language is not really constructive. It is clear that English is not their first language - but is readable and I commend anyone who is willing to publish an article for general use in a language other than their native one.

I believe the Dell netbook named in the article is the best machine given their own criteria and is purely their opinion. My criteria meant that I went for a Samsung N110 which was the best on the market for my circumstances. To each their own.

The real reason for posting this comment is regarding virus software. One of the main raison d'etre for a netbook is to connect to the Internet...the use of netbook optimised virus scanners is essential for many reasons...and should not be switched off or selectively run. Install and leave running all the time.

With regards to using Linux in preference to Windows XP...if you have a large hard disk...why not dual boot and get the best of both worlds...I do and it works like a dream.

My main tip is not to multitask tasks...where possible close down applications before going into another one. But to be honest I often have a browser open (Firefox) with an email client (Thunderbird) and run something like Word 2007 or Onenote 2007 without any problems...

The second tip is to increase the memory on the netbook from the 512mb or 1gb to the maximum allowable - for most netbooks this means 2gb. This can be done for around £25 (approx $35). This give a good performance boost.

Just my 2 cents worth...

This entire article was written with obviously little to no knowledge of Netbooks in general. I have an Acer Aspire One AO150 Netbook and I play World of Warcraft, Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike and many other great games just fine on the system. My Netbook without running any applications only uses up 267 MB's of my 1GB of Ram and even running games such as WoW only use up a bit more of my resources.

I use my Netbook as a full fledged PC and it never bogs down and chugs no matter what I'm doing on it. I hate this ill informed notion that people have about Netbooks not being able to do complex tasks. If they were that inferior they simply wouldn't be in the market at all. Get your facts straight, learn to type better English and maybe people will take this article seriously.
