Yahoo decides to close Geocities.

After providing free webhosting for several years.Yahoo! has now decided to close geocities later this year.Well whats the reason behind this decision is not yet disclosed by Yahoo!.Yahoo! will share more details this summer.Currently geocities is not accepting new sign ups and they are also recommending their existing users to upgrade on one of the paid web hosting plan by Yahoo!.

One of the reason behind this decision can be the huge loss because of the sudden decrease in use of geocities after the arrivals of social networking sites.As social networking sites has made it much easier for users to share their pictures and pages.

Rupert Goodwins, editor of the ZDNet website, said the closure of GeoCities was the end of an era.

“I think GeoCities was the first proof that you could have something really popular and still not make any money on the internet.
