How to decrease down firefox memory usage.

October 4th, 2008 | by admin |

Firefox is becoming one of the world’s favourite browser. As i started using firefox that was the last day i use IE because after using firefox i found it really great and secure browser.Although firefox is a best browser but still there is one problem which is being faced by the users of firefox and problem is that if you keep on using firefox continously its memory usage increases very rapidly and system becomes slow so there is not option available to us but to close firefox and reopen it.In this post i m gonna share a simple trick with you which can decrease the firefox memory usage to atleast half.

Although this method is not perfect and doesn’t work all the time but it has worked several times and on several PCs.

Make a new tab, and enter this into your url box:

about:config

Next, FF might show a error saying that this might void your warranty if you change any settings,
Just click ok.

Now left click in the window, and select new -> integer.

Set this as the name:

browser.cache.memory.capacity

and when it asks for the integer, set it to 60000.

Now restart firefox and you are done.

Is there any downsides to this? Just wondering before I test it out.
