How to rename the recycle bin icon in Windows XP
August 24th, 2008 | by admin |By default in windows xp there is no option to rename the recycle bin.Although it is not neccessary to rename recycle bin nor it produce any effect on your OS but some peoples want to give recycle bin another name like junk yard or trash and for those peoples there is a simple trick given below to easily rename recycle bin icon.
Caution! : In this method we are doing editing with registery and it is alway dangerous to play with registery and you small mistake can produce a big negative impact on your OS.So please always backup the registery before doing any changes.
Open Registry Editor
1) Go to below path by browsing registry.(You can browse registery by typing regedit in run)
2) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/CLSID/{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}/ ShellFolder
3) To change the features shown on the below, edit the value of “Attributes” and set it to one of the values below
• 41 01 00 20 – Copy
• 42 01 00 20 – Cut
• 43 01 00 20 – Copy and Cut
• 44 01 00 20 – Paste
• 45 01 00 20 – Copy and Paste
• 46 01 00 20 – Cut and Copy
• 47 01 00 20 – Cut, Copy and Paste
• 50 01 00 20 – Rename
• 60 01 00 20 – Delete
• 70 01 00 20 – Rename and Delete
For example to add the ability to Rename the Recycle Bin browse in registry the path [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081- 101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\ShellFolder] and change the value of “Attributes” to “50 01 00 20″
